As a Deputy District Attorney, Michelle Lauron has fought for justice and successfully prosecuted hundreds of criminals who preyed upon our community.
These are some major cases Michelle successfully prosecuted during her 28-year career with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.
The Crime: The defendant and the two victims were playing poker. The defendant grew
angry with them because he perceived that the victims were taking advantage of him by
using his contractors license to do work. The defendant left the room and returned with a shotgun. He proceeded to shoot and kill the first victim in the chest. The first victim died within seconds.
The defendant then turned his attention to second victim who ran to hide in the bathroom. The defendant shot and blasted through the bathroom door in an attempt to kill the second victim. He was unsuccessful.
The Charges: The defendant was charged with Murder and Attempted Murder, use of a firearm. The defendant knew both victims and had been working with them laying carpet.
The Verdict: Guilty. The jury found his self-defense claim untenable and convicted him of both counts and found the use of the gun allegation true. The defendant was sentenced to prison 45 years to life.
The Crime: The defendant knew the victim who had allowed Brown to stay at his place
periodically when he was a runaway juvenile. They were upset that she refused to
provide them any more marijuana and money. They burglarized her house and when she came home, they brutally beat her and cut her neck open. They left her struggling for life as they took her belongings and stole her car.
The Charges: The defendant, along with two co-defendants were charged with Murder, Residential Burglary, Carjacking, use of a Deadly Weapon.
The Verdict: Guilty. Brown pled guilty to all charges and was sentenced to prison for
25 years to life.
The Crime: The victim and his friend were 13 years old and riding their bike around the
high desert trick or treating on Halloween evening. He and his friend went to the
defendant’s front door and rang the bell to trick or treat. The defendant came outside, irate for no apparent reason, and proceeded to beat the victim with various objects including a baseball bat, a fence post and a golf club. Once the golf club broke, he attempted to stab the victim with the broken golf club. The victim was thought dead but after a month in Intensive Care, survived the attack.
He was severely injured and suffered great bodily injury, including brain trauma and permanent brain injury. He would never mentally progress pass the mentality of a 13-year-old.
The Charges: The defendant was charged with Attempted Murder and Criminal Threats, use of a Deadly Weapon.
The Verdict: Guilty. The defendant pled to the maximum sentence at the beginning of the trial for 25 years state prison and Three Strikes.
The Crimes: Defendant sexually molested his biological daughter over the course of three years when he was in and out of prison. The victim’s mother passed away and the defendant was her only living parent. He threatened that if she told anyone that he would go back to prison, and she would not have her dad in her life.
The Charges: Two counts of Lewd or Lascivious Acts Involving Children under 14 years old and one count of Lewd or Lascivious Acts Involving Children 14 or 15 years old.
The Verdict: Guilty. Defendant was convicted of all three counts and his prior strike convictions for robbery and residential burglary were found true. He was sentenced to prison for 75 years to life.
The Crimes: The defendant was an acquaintance of the victim’s husband and came to their house when the husband was gone. He refused to leave when the victim asked him to, took her into her bedroom and forcibly raped and sodomized her. The victim immediately called 911 and reported the attack.
The Charges: Four counts of Forcible Rape and one count of Sodomy by Force
The Verdict: Guilty. The defendant was convicted of all five crimes and was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
The Crimes: The victim’s mother was not well and spent much of her life in hospital settings. The victim did not realize the defendant was not her biological father until she was placed in CPS custody when this conduct was brought to the attention of authorities. The defendant would sexually assault the victims continuously from the age of 9 until she was 12 years old and reported the assaults to her school vice principal.
The Charges: Defendant was charged with one count of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child Under Age 14.
The Verdict: Guilty. The defendant was convicted and sentenced to the maximum allowed by law of 16 years in prison.
The Crime: The Defendant was a welfare case worker. Through her trusted position she had full access to the state-wide computer system that allows case workers to modify aid amounts given to Individuals, change addresses in those accounts, create communication logs, and reissue EBT cards.
It was discovered that she changed addresses within a certain class of aided cases and reissued EBT cards. They were mailed to addresses where her son and others would illegally use the cash on the EBT cards. $87,802.96 theft of taxpayer money was traced to her illegal actions.
The Charges: The defendant was charged with 35 counts of Identity Theft, 36 counts of
Misappropriation of Public Funds, 36 counts of Grand Theft, 36 counts of Acquiring
Access Cards Without Cardholder’s Consent, taking over $65K, Felon with a Firearm.
The Verdict: Guilty. The defendant pled guilty to all 107 counts to the court and was
given a prison sentence of 10 years.
